The Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP), jointly initiated by the Ministry of Environment (MOENV) and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), held the “2024 Global Environmental Education Partnership Advisory Meeting” from November 4 to 9. Senior Executive Officer Ling-Chu Wu of the MOENV’s Environmental Protection Department led a delegation to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. For the 10-year anniversary of GEEP, the advisors reviewed the achievements of the past 10 years, including the establishment of a complete network of mutual learning in global environmental education, the GEEP Asia-Pacific Center, and the African Hub, all of which helped establish Taiwan's leading position in environmental education.

In addition to MOENV’s staff, the delegation also included the winner of Taiwan Environmental Youth Leader, winner of the "Environmental Leadership Award" Ms. Jo-Tzu Lee and "Environmental Initiative Award" Ms. Chia-Hsuan Chen, as well as two local experts, Professor Tzu-Chau Chang and co-founder of Re-Think Chih-Yang Huang, as GEEP advisors at the meeting. This meeting brought together expert advisors from 19 countries: Nigeria, Jamaica, New Zealand, Slovakia, Guatemala, U.K. (Northern Ireland), India, Australia, Russia, Kenya, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, Denmark, Austria, Canada, United States, and Taiwan.

The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of GEEP, and 10 new advisors from different countries and environmental education fields also took part. During the meeting, Senior Executive Officer Ling-Chu Wu expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the USEPA and international partners for their contribution over the past decade.  During the meetings, discussions focused on strengthening the relationships and maintaining connections among GEEP advisors from various countries. Additionally, there was a review of the important lessons learned from GEEP’s past experiences in environmental education to enhance future developments in educational strategies, environmental issues, and regional networks among countries.

Since 2014, the MOENV and the USEPA have been jointly promoting the GEEP initiative. Through this project, Taiwan has established strong partnerships with countries around the world. The program facilitates exchanges and meetings that allow Taiwan to learn from other nations’ experiences while also share its own achievements in environmental education.
