The Ministry of Environment held the "2023 Green Procurement and Green Consumption Promotion Award Ceremony for Outstanding Units" on August 28, 2024. Deputy Minister Shih Wen-chen handed out awards to 187 public and private entities to recognize their support and efforts in green procurement, while also encouraging more entities to participate.

The Ministry of Environment (previously the EPA) has promoted the Green Mark system since 1992 and green procurement by government agencies since 2002. Green procurement was expanded to private enterprises in 2007. After continuous advocacy and efforts, in 2023 government agencies achieved total green procurement worth NT$12.6 billion, while private enterprises and groups reached NT$65.7 billion. Overall green procurement increased by nearly NT$8 billion from 2022, indicating substantial achievements. Governmental entities mainly purchased Green Mark digital information products, air conditioners, and carbon powder toner cartridges, accounting for 60% of the total. Three-quarters (75%) of products procured by the private sector were certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Green Mark or Energy Star. Government-procured Green Mark products amounted to saving 3 million trees, conserving 30,000 metric tons of water, and preventing 7,600 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

In 2023, 33 government agencies received top ratings in green procurement, tripling last year's number. 154 private enterprises reported green procurement amounts exceeding NT$50 million, showing significant growth. The results demonstrate dedication to environmental protection by both governmental and private entities.

In recent years, efforts and collaboration across sectors have improved conditions for the green consumption market in Taiwan. The Ministry of Environment appreciates the actions taken and hopes exemplary units will lead others towards a net-zero green lifestyle.
