  • National climate change adaptation actions

Implementation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan Climate change adaptation development in Taiwan is based on the "National Climate Change Action Guidelines," referring to the scientific report on climate change provided by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) compiled the "National Climate Adaptation Action Plan (2018- 2022)" and was approved by Executive Yuan. The action plan includes Capacity Building and eight major sectors, Disaster, Infrastructure, Water Resource, Land Use, Coastal and Marine Environment, Energy Supply and Industry, Agricultural Production and Biodiversity, and Public Health. Cross-sectoral integration enhances the overall capacity to respond to climate change and strengthens the effectiveness of adaptation work.

  • Low-carbon sustainable homeland

To raise public awareness of climate change mitigation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the government develops low-carbon sustainable homes to encourage everyone to take action in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in daily lives. Counsel 3 levels of participating units to implement low-carbon actions or measures through the promotion of the grading and certification system. It also evaluates and confers grades and honors to encourage the public to actively participate in low-carbon actions. For more information on low-carbon sustainable policies, please visit the Low Carbon Sustainable Homeland Program.

III.
  • Promotion of resilience and adaptation measures

To develop adaptation resilience facilities with the concept of sponge cities and focusing on local areas, small-scale demonstration facilities for water retention and cooling were built. Through the construction of multifunctional smart rain gardens and the use of natural methods, the microclimate in the area was adjusted, flooding problems were improved, and ecological education was provided. For more information on adaptation resilience facilities, please refer to the multifunctional smart rain garden, the "Water Retention and Cooling Monitoring System Platform" .

  • Subsidies for greenhouse gas reduction management and climate change adaptation research and development plans

To enhance the academic research capabilities of Taiwan in response to climate change, domestic colleges, universities, and research institutions are encouraged to invest in greenhouse gas reduction management strategies or research related to climate change adaptation. The program aims to create new ideas in the government's policymaking and proponents will be provided with subsidies for carrying out research and development projects related to greenhouse gas reduction management and climate change adaptation.
