Taiwan Sustainable Trade Index Environmental pillar
- Introduction to the Sustainable Trade Index
The Sustainable Trade Index (STI) is a collaborative work released by the Institute for Management Development (IMD) and the Hinrich Foundation. By surveying 70 indicators across the economic pillar, social pillar, and environmental pillar, the index assesses the sustainable trade performance of 30 key global economies. The goal of this index is to ensure that trade yields mutually acceptable benefits for trade partners while achieving a balance among the economy, environment, and society. Since 2016 the STI has been published every two years, so to date it has been published four times. Starting from 2023, the STI will be published annually, with the 5th report to be published at the end of the year. In 2022, Taiwan was ranked 10th according to the STI.

- Definition:The Ecological Footprint adds up all the productive areas which a population, a person or a product impacts. It measures the ecological assets that a given population consumes or that a product requires to be made (including plant-based food and fiber products, livestock and fish products, timber and other forest products, space for urban infrastructure) and the assets required to absorb related waste, especially carbon emissions.
